Current Adventures Kayak School and Trips specializes in the highest quality instruction and trip leading. The National Marine Sanctuary encompasses most of Monterey Bay and Elkhorn Slough. We offer regular trips to Elkhorn, which is a 7 mile saltwater ecosystem that is teeming with sea otters, harbor seals, pelicans, shorebirds and other unique wildlife.

The Ranger is a 33ft Rigid Inflatable (rigid fiberglass hull, inflatable pontoons) with two new EPA certified four-stroke Mercury engines. The boat was designed for military use and is made to the highest standards of safety and reliability. Ranger is the only civilian owned PT1000 in the country.
Captain Laurence Henry has lived in Monterey County for over 20 years. As a local resident, he has developed a deep respect for the ocean and a passion and concern for the protection of our local marine environment and resources. Captain Henry graduated from California Maritime Academy and holds a 3rd Mate Unlimited Ton license, and a 200 Ton Masters license. He is a PADI certified dive master and has worked on whale watch and dive boats in Monterey and Hawaii. In the summer of 2009 he worked on a NOAA research vessel in Honolulu as relief third mate and recently worked on container ships out of the Port of Oakland.

Ocean Whale Watch
32-yr veteran Captain Jim Davis and Naturalist Kate Cummings provide a unique experience for whale enthusiasts. As owners and operators of our business, we create an upbeat environment for everyone who steps on board and will do everything to accommodate the needs of each passenger. We always keep in mind that the ocean belongs to it’s creatures, we are there to observe and appreciate--not interfere. The High Spirits is a luxurious, non-smoking, 60ft U.S. Coast Guard certified and inspected vessel that can hold 49 passengers plus crew. It is the only vessel on the bay with an upper deck that is accessible to passengers-the perfect vantage point for spotting wildlife and taking great pictures. The noise of the engines is muffled two floors below deck. Owned and operated by the Moss Landing Harbor District, Kirby Park offers free parking, a small boat/kayak launch ramp, and public access to the Elkhorn Slough, kayaking, hiking trails, bird watching, and wildlife. From Highway One north or south, take Dolan Road inland at the Moss Landing power plant. Elkhorn Road intersects at about 3 miles inland; left on Elkhorn Road (north) and travel approximately 6 miles. Kirby Park Entrance sign will be on the left.
Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine

The Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve is one of 27 National Estuarine Research Reserves established nationwide. The 1400-acre Reserve is a hub of activity and hosts programs that promote education, research, and conservation in Elkhorn Slough. The Visitor Center has award-winning exhibits that invite everyone to explore the Unseen Slough. There are five miles of trails that meander through beautiful oak woodlands, calm tidal creeks, and freshwater marshes. Docent-led tours on weekends and special events throughout the year.
Moss Landing State Beach
Offshore fishing, surfing, windsurfing and horseback riding are popular activities. The beach is a favorite place for picnics because the dunes protect it from afternoon winds. This area is an important stop along the Pacific Flyway so birdwatching is popular. Water recreation is dangerous because of strong rip currents.

Salinas River State Beach
The mile-long Dune Trail explores some of Monterey Bay’s intriguing sand dunes & links two coastal access points of Salinas River State Beach. Directions: From Highway 1 at Moss Landing, exit on Portero Road & follow it 0.5 mile to the parking lot at Salinas River State Beach. The other trailhead is off Molera Road.
